Hijos de Villa, "sons of Villa," is named for Francisco "Pancho" Villa, the general of the Mexican Revolution, and the brand is best known for glass bottles shaped like the weapons of that era. This one is a 200mL revolver, created to honor Villa around the centenary of the Revolution, and it's as much a collectible as a bottle of tequila. The tequila is produced by Tequila Quiote, S.A. de C.V., NOM 1433, in Jalisco, and bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof). The Blanco goes into the bottle unaged, straight from the still. Retail tasting notes describe cooked agave sweetness with citrus and herbal notes, a peppery mid-palate and a buttery finish, and Difford's Guide found pungent agave and white pepper on the nose with a black-pepper palate and an herbaceous, peppery aftertaste. Nobody buys this one for a sipping flight: it's the gag gift, the groomsman gift, the white-elephant winner and the bottle that ends up on the back bar long after it's empty. Pour it cold as shots with lime and salt, or split it into a couple of Margaritas, and keep the revolver as a souvenir.
