Amaro Nonino Quintessentia is the amaro that launched a thousand Paper Planes, made by the Nonino family in Friuli, northeastern Italy, where they have distilled grappa since 1897. Created in 1992 by Benito and Giannola Nonino, it is unique among amari for its base: aged grappa, the family's signature spirit, infused with herbs, roots, and citrus and rested in barriques.

The result is golden, elegant, and bittersweet, with notes of orange peel, caramel, licorice, and gentle herbal bitterness, and a soft, warm finish at 35% ABV. It is superb neat or over ice as a digestif, and it is the essential ingredient in the Paper Plane, along with bourbon, Aperol, and lemon. It is one of the most beloved amari in the world, and this 750 ml bottle is the one to own.
