Cat's Eye Distillery Obtainium 15 Year Cask Strength Rye Whiskey
Cat's Eye Distillery Obtainium 15 Year Cask Strength Rye Whiskey is an independent bottling of well-aged Canadian rye from Cat's Eye Distillery, the Indiana outfit that sources mature barrels and releases them without dilution or filtration. This rye was distilled on December 19, 2005 and bottled on July 30, 2021, and it comes in at a full 64.5% ABV, exactly as it left the cask.
Fifteen years in wood puts this squarely in the territory of the older Canadian ryes that collectors chase, with the barrel having plenty of time to layer rich oak, dried fruit and baking spice over the grain. At cask strength, a splash of water opens it up considerably, so there is room to dial it in to your taste. Obtainium bottlings are one-off barrels, and once a release is gone it is not coming back.
