Rare Character Cask Strength Rye Single Barrel - Momma's / Del Mesa / Chip's Private Selection
Rare Character Cask Strength Rye Single Barrel Momma's / Del Mesa / Chip's Private Selection is a San Diego-exclusive barrel of Rare Character rye, chosen by Chips Liquor together with Momma's Liquor and Del Mesa Liquor and bottled at its full cask strength of 128.76 proof at eight years and five months old. Rare Character, founded in 2021 by Pablo Moix and Peter Nevenglosky, has become the most talked-about independent bottler in American whiskey, and its Single Barrel Series is the reason.
Moix, a veteran bartender with one of the most respected palates in the business, sources ultra-aged and unusual barrels through distilleries, brokers and personal relationships, and each single barrel gets its own custom label art and a colored wax top that signals the flavor profile. Rare Character bottles routinely sell for multiples of retail on the secondary market. A store pick like this one is a chance to get one at shelf price, chosen by tasting rather than by allocation. Eight-plus years and nearly 129 proof of Kentucky and Indiana rye character: expect dark caramel, baking spice, dried fruit and a very long finish. One barrel only.
