Sangre de Vida Anejo Tequila
Sangre de Vida, Spanish for blood of life, is the tequila brand sold in a heart-shaped bottle, from Iconic Brands, the company run by Kim Brandi that is also behind the skull-bottled KAH tequila. It is produced under NOM 1137 in the Tequila Valley of Jalisco, having earlier been made at NOM 1438, and the production is traditional: 100% blue Weber agave cooked in stone and brick ovens, crushed on a screw mill, fermented in stainless steel tanks and distilled in stainless pot stills fitted with copper coils. The Añejo is double distilled, aged in oak to the añejo standard of at least a year, and bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof). Tequila Matchmaker tasters describe oak, vanilla, cooked agave, caramel, cherry and black pepper on the nose, with a palate of caramel and vanilla sweetness, oak and a peppery finish, and several note the bourbon-barrel character. The heart bottle makes it the obvious gift tequila for an anniversary or Valentine's Day, and the añejo is the one for neat sipping after dinner, where the caramel and cherry from the barrel show best.
