Sangre de Vida Blanco Tequila
Sangre de Vida, Spanish for blood of life, is the tequila brand sold in a heart-shaped bottle, from Iconic Brands, the company run by Kim Brandi that is also behind the skull-bottled KAH tequila. It is produced under NOM 1137 in the Tequila Valley of Jalisco, having earlier been made at NOM 1438, and the production is traditional: 100% blue Weber agave cooked in stone and brick ovens, crushed on a screw mill, fermented in stainless steel tanks and distilled in stainless pot stills fitted with copper coils. The Blanco, labeled El Corazón, is triple distilled and bottled unaged at 40% ABV (80 proof). The importer describes raw agave on the nose followed by pepper, herbal touches and a hint of fresh earth, with a soft, velvety palate balanced between sweetness and acidity, agave leading, a touch of spice and a clean finish; Tequila Matchmaker tasters add citrus, lime, black pepper, flowers, vanilla and anise. It is the most-reviewed bottle in the range, and the heart bottle makes it the obvious gift tequila, but the liquid holds up on its own in a margarita or over ice.
