Sangre De Vida Reposado Tequila
Sangre de Vida, Spanish for blood of life, is the tequila brand sold in a heart-shaped bottle, from Iconic Brands, the company run by Kim Brandi that is also behind the skull-bottled KAH tequila. It is produced under NOM 1137 in the Tequila Valley of Jalisco, having earlier been made at NOM 1438, and the production is traditional: 100% blue Weber agave cooked in stone and brick ovens, crushed on a screw mill, fermented in stainless steel tanks and distilled in stainless pot stills fitted with copper coils. The Reposado is double distilled before resting in oak, and Tequila Matchmaker tasters describe cooked agave, buttered popcorn, light butterscotch, caramel, black pepper and warm wood with a sweet middle and a long, warm finish; one reviewer called it an improved version of the KAH reposado from the same creator. The aging period is not published, and the brand has released it at more than one strength, so check the label for proof. The heart bottle makes it the obvious gift tequila for an anniversary or Valentine's Day, and the reposado is the one to pour neat or in a tequila old fashioned, where the butterscotch and pepper carry the drink.
