Willett Family Estate 4 Year Cask Strength Rye Whiskey is the core estate rye from the family-owned Willett Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, and the most accessible way to taste Willett's own distillate. Willett was one of America's great independent bottlers for decades before the Kulsveen family restarted the stills in 2012, and the four-year Family Estate rye is the whiskey that made Willett rye a cult item.
It is a blend of Willett's two rye mash bills, a high-rye recipe of 74% rye, 11% corn and 15% malted barley and a low-rye recipe of 51% rye, 34% corn and 15% malted barley, aged four years in hand-selected white oak barrels and bottled at cask strength, generally around 110 proof, without chill filtration. Breaking Bourbon rated it 3.5 out of 5 and called it a one-of-a-kind tasting rye, with floral, botanical and sweet notes, caramel, honey and rye bread on the nose, raisin, menthol, spice, green tea and citrus on the palate, and a finish of botanicals, toasted grain and black pepper. Willett describes cherries and oak on the nose, cherry, vanilla and tons of spice on the palate.
