Tanteo Blanco is the unflavored base of the spicy-tequila house — bottled at 42.5% ABV, higher than most blancos, and additive-free, from the only tequila distillery owned by a cooperative of agave farmers. Tanteo launched in 2007 as the first pepper-infused tequila and added the Blanco in 2020 once it had a distillery worth showing off: Juanacatlán, in the hills between the highlands and the valley, owned and operated by a cooperative of eighty-five farming families who get a fair price for their agave, where every bottle is distilled and bottled by hand. The Blanco is 100% fair-trade blue Weber agave, traditionally cooked, open-air fermented, small-batch distilled, and bottled unaged at 42.5% ABV, additive-free. Drinkhacker reviewed the whole line in 2020 and flagged the higher proof of the Blanco as worth noting. Expect a nose of cooked agave, citrus, and a green, peppery freshness, opening into a bright, medium-bodied, mineral palate of agave, lime, and white pepper with a clean, slightly warm finish.
