The Brandlin family emigrated from Switzerland in the 1870s and homesteaded high on Mount Veeder, farming orchards and running the local grain store and stagecoach before Henry Brandlin added winegrowing in 1926. Today Brandlin Estate is 49 acres of Napa Green certified vineyard perched at 900 to 1,250 feet above the fog line, where thin volcanic soils and a long mountain season produce small berries with intense concentration. Winemaker Steven Rogstad crafted the 2019 from 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, aging it 22 months in French oak, 50% new, and bottling it at 14.5% ABV in 750ml. The wine shows plum, blueberry, exotic spice and dried flowers, medium to full-bodied with a firm tannic grip and generous texture. Wine Spectator rated it 94 points, noting anise, applewood, sassafras and bay leaf around blackberry and acai with a window through 2038, and both Wine Enthusiast and James Suckling scored it 93. Pair it with venison, lamb or well-marbled beef. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
