Iron + Sand Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon
Iron + Sand is a single-wine project from Trinchero Family Estates devoted entirely to Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon, first released with the 2017 vintage. Winemaker Lee Miyamura, a Paso Robles veteran since 1990, took over the cellar in 2021, while viticulturist Patrick Silveira, whose family has farmed the area since 1864, has guided the vineyards from the start. Most of the fruit comes from the Cagliero and Estrella vineyards in the San Miguel District, the northernmost sub-appellation of Paso Robles, where deep sandy alluvial soils and diurnal swings of up to 50 degrees build color and freshness; about 10% is drawn from Steffano II Vineyard in the El Pomar District on clay, granite and calcareous soils. Farming and winemaking are certified sustainable. Aging in neutral oak keeps the focus on the terroir. The wine is deep purple with dark red fruit, blueberry, black cherry, cassis, cola and baking spice, then a velvety palate of black cherry, blackberry, coffee and mocha with a hint of vanilla, lively acidity and fine tannins on a long, mouthwatering finish. 14.1% ABV, 750ml. Pair it with Santa Maria tri-tip or braised short ribs over polenta. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
