V. Vineyards Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon
V. Vineyards is a small Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon label, and this 2017 is a mature release that has already done its cellaring for you: at roughly nine years from vintage, the tannins have softened and the fruit has shifted from primary blackberry toward dried cherry, cedar, tobacco leaf and forest floor. The 2017 Sonoma County growing season began with a wet winter after years of drought, ran through a hot Labor Day heat spike and finished early, producing concentrated, ripe Cabernets with firm structure that have aged well. Sonoma County Cabernet from this era typically blends fruit from the warmer inland valleys, Alexander Valley and Sonoma Valley above all, where gravelly benchland soils and wide day-to-night temperature swings give the variety full ripeness with brighter acidity than Napa across the Mayacamas. Expect a full-bodied wine near 14.5% ABV with cassis, black cherry, dried herbs, graphite and vanilla-tinged oak, resolved tannins and a long, savory finish. Serve with braised short ribs, roast beef, lamb shoulder or an aged Manchego. 750ml bottle. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
