Caymus Vineyards Special Selection Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Chuck Wagner founded Caymus Vineyards in Rutherford in 1972 with his parents Charlie and Lorna, and the family still runs it, with Charlie and Jenny Wagner now working alongside their father. Special Selection is the estate's crown jewel, first made in 1975 and the only wine ever named Wine Spectator's Wine of the Year twice. It is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon built from the best hand-picked blocks of the Wagners' estate and closely partnered vineyards, led by Rutherford, and it is matured roughly 18 months in French and American oak with a significant share of new barrels, then bottled without heavy filtration at around 15.0% ABV in 750ml. The warm, even 2020 season produced a deep ruby-garnet wine with blackcurrant, ripe blackberry, dark cherry, violet, cocoa, spearmint and tobacco leaf on the nose, a full-bodied palate of plum, black cherry, chocolate-covered espresso, licorice and cedar, fine-grained tannins and a long finish of sweet oak spice and smoke. This release comes in a collectible wooden box. Pair it with prime rib, lamb or a bittersweet chocolate torte. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
