Cline Rock Carved Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Cline Family Cellars is a family-owned Sonoma winery started by Fred Cline in 1982 in Oakley, where he made his first vintages from ancient Mourvedre, Zinfandel and Carignane plantings dating to the 1880s before buying a 350-acre horse farm in Carneros in 1989 and moving the winery there; the Clines farm with certified sustainable, Green String practices and the next generation now works alongside Fred and Nancy. Rock Carved is Cline's premium Cabernet Sauvignon program, sourced from rocky hillside vineyards in Alexander Valley, the warm northern Sonoma appellation along the Russian River whose gravelly, volcanic benchlands deliver ripe, structured Cabernet. The wine is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon aged in French and American oak barrels with a portion new for about 16 months and bottled around 14.5% ABV. It shows blackberry, black cherry and cassis with mocha, cedar, vanilla and dried herbs, full-bodied with plush, chalky tannins and a long, spice-laced finish that stays fresh thanks to Alexander Valley's cool nights.
