Bisquit & Dubouché was founded in 1819 in Jarnac by Alexandre Bisquit, who was joined by his son-in-law Adrien Dubouché, and the house was poured at the Russian imperial court and the court of Napoleon III. After decades under Pernod Ricard and then Distell, the brand was acquired by Campari Group in 2018 and relaunched under its full historic name. The VSOP was originally launched in 1952 and is distilled using the long-cut method devised by Alexandre Bisquit: the wine is distilled on its lees and the heart of the run is extended, with the distiller cutting to tails later than most houses after sampling by nose and palate, which captures more of the fruity and floral esters. The blend draws on Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Fins Bois and Bons Bois eaux-de-vie aged a minimum of four years in French oak. Difford's Guide describes vanilla, caramel, toasted almond, lavender, rose petal and dried apricot on the nose with cinnamon spice, ripe pear and dry oak on the palate, ending in a long, nutty rancio finish, and rated it a VSOP that could challenge some XOs. Bottled at 40% ABV, 750ml.
