Cardenal Mendoza Non Plus Ultra Brandy de Jerez is the crown jewel of Sánchez Romate, the Jerez house founded in 1781. Cardenal Mendoza is the benchmark of Solera Gran Reserva brandy, aged in casks that previously held Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry; Non Plus Ultra is drawn from the oldest soleras in the bodega, a tiny selection of brandies of extraordinary age, bottled at 40% ABV.
It is a very dark mahogany with the clean, rounded character of aged Oloroso. The nose is raisin, plum, walnut and old wood; the palate is elegant, noble and deeply distinguished, with dried fruit, toffee and sherried spice in a velvety texture, and the finish goes on and on. It is a brandy for the rarest occasions, poured neat in a small glass.
