Courvoisier VSOP Cognac
Courvoisier VSOP is a Fine Champagne cognac, meaning its blend is drawn exclusively from the two top crus of the appellation, Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne, with Grande Champagne making up at least half. The house was established in Jarnac in 1828 by Emmanuel Courvoisier and Louis Gallois, carries the legend of having supplied Napoleon's court, and has been part of Campari Group since 2024. Cellar Master Thibaut Hontanx assembles the VSOP from Ugni Blanc eaux-de-vie that are double distilled in copper pot stills and aged in French Limousin oak for four to ten years, giving it considerably more maturity than the four-year legal minimum. Courvoisier describes a rich, rounded cognac with aromas of ripe peach, apricot and jasmine leading into toasted almond, vanilla, honey and gentle oak spice, finishing long and silky. The chalky soils of the Champagne crus give the spirit its floral lift and aging potential, which is why this expression works both neat and in a stirred cocktail like a Cognac Old Fashioned.
