The Forgotten Casks XO Cognac is a project by Alain Royer, scion of the Louis Royer cognac family, who seeks out rare, overlooked barrels in the alcoves of historic Cognac cellars and bottles them as single lots or tailored blends. The XO is hand-selected for perfect balance and bottled at 40% ABV to showcase the true taste of the region's crus.
It shows a deep, translucent old-oak color. The nose is a wide array of dried and glazed fruits, vanilla and spice. The palate is mature and soft, with mellow tannins wrapped around candied orange, fig, honey and gentle oak in perfect balance, and the finish is long and elegant. It is a cognac to sip neat after dinner.
