Description: This aperitif wine has a long and storied history, dating back to 1865. It is known for its exceptional complexity, with delightful flavors and a stimulating palate that make it stand out from other aperitif wines. It was traditionally known as "ouvre l'appétit," or "the key to the appetite," due to its ability to stimulate the appetite and make it perfect for serving as an aperitif.
The wine is made by infusing gentian, cinchona (quinine), and other renowned herbs from the Grand Chartreuse mountains into a mistelle base. It has a reputation for being popular with sportsmen and was even an early sponsor of the Tour de France. It can be enjoyed neat or with a twist, and can also be used to enhance classic drinks in place of sweet red vermouth. Labels from the 1890s and 1930s are available.
