George Dickel x Leopold Bros Collaboration Blend Rye
George Dickel x Leopold Bros Collaboration Blend Rye is a limited-edition whisky that recreates a style of rye that vanished before World War II. Nicole Austin of George Dickel and Todd Leopold of Denver's Leopold Bros pitched the idea together: blend Dickel's never-before-released column-still rye, distilled in-house at Cascade Hollow in Tennessee, with Leopold Bros' Three Chamber Rye, made on the only working three-chamber still in America, and bottle it at 100 proof.
Before Prohibition, heavy-bodied three-chamber rye was routinely blended with lighter column-still rye to make the whisky poured in American saloons, and this bottle brings that practice back. Drinkhacker rated it an A-, describing warm croissant, spun sugar, florals and herbs on the nose, sweet pastry, dried herbs, raw honey, drinking chocolate and dark tea on the palate, and a finish of dark berry preserves, pink peppercorn and chocolate-covered orange peel, calling it a contemplative sipper too good to mix. It is a piece of rye history in a bottle.
