Brockmans was created by four friends who loved gin and wanted one that tasted like nothing else on the shelf — and the trick was berries. Made in England from 100% English grain, quadruple distilled, the recipe steeps eleven botanicals sourced across Europe in neutral spirit for hours before distillation in a century-old copper pot still: juniper grown wild in Tuscany, Bulgarian coriander, Valencian orange and lemon peel, Spanish almonds, Chinese cassia and licorice, Belgian angelica, Italian orris — and the two that define it, wild blueberries and blackberries from northern Europe. Bottled at 40% ABV in a matte black bottle with a texture people pass around the table to feel. Expect sweet blueberry and blackcurrant leading the nose with a pine-and-lavender lift from the juniper and coriander's gingery orange top note, opening into a fresher, more balanced palate than the nose suggests: minty juniper and herbal botanicals up front, the berries sitting soft and rounded in the background, dry bittersweet orange peel elongating a long, intensely smooth finish. Gauntleys called it impressively balanced. Honest note: this is a berry-forward, contemporary gin — Bevvy notes it eschews the juniper kick of most gins — so London Dry purists should know going in.
