Gold Cock is the whisky project of Rudolf Jelínek, the legendary Moravian distillery in Vizovice, Czech Republic — a house officially founded in the late 19th century with roots stretching back to the 16th, and by far the best-known producer of plum brandy in Central Europe, its Kosher Slivovitz distributed worldwide. The Gold Cock brand itself dates to the 1970s, making it one of continental Europe's longest-running single malt programs, decades before "world whisky" became a category. The craft credentials are genuinely complete: local Moravian two-row barley, in-house floor maltings, malt from the Bruntál malthouse, slow double distillation, maturation in heavily charred European winter oak coopered locally in the Czech Republic, and bottling without chill filtration or added color — several expressions at 49.2% ABV, a tribute to the parallel running through Vizovice itself. The range spans a young Black Feathers blend, the flagship 10 Year single malt (symbolically peated to ~10 PPM), a heavily peated expression smoked to Islay-level 30 PPM with a genuinely unique pine-forest smoke character, and older limited releases reaching 20 years and beyond that have impressed even skeptical Scotch reviewers like Dramface.
