Gran Dovejo is a small, family-run tequila label built on one idea: make a traditionally crafted Highland tequila without cutting corners, and let the agave do the talking. The brand was started by cousins Frank Mendez and his family, who partnered with master distiller Leopoldo Solís Tinoco at Feliciano Vivanco y Asociados, NOM 1414, in the red soil of the Jalisco Highlands. Solís Tinoco believed in the result enough to put his name on the bottle, and the Vivanco family, agave growers for five generations, supplies the single-estate blue Weber agave behind every batch.
Production is old-school from start to finish. Mature agave is slow-roasted in stone and brick ovens for up to 36 hours, crushed on a roller mill, fermented in stainless steel with champagne yeast while classical music plays to the tanks, and double distilled in copper pot stills. Nothing is added, and the line is confirmed additive-free. The result is a fruit-forward, cooked-agave style with a little Highland spice that has earned Tequila.net best-of-the-best honors and consistent 90-point ratings from Tequila Matchmaker reviewers.
The range runs from the clean, citrusy Blanco and the 98-proof Blanco High Proof to the Reposado, rested six to nine months in American white oak, and the limited Cask Strength Single Barrel Añejo bottled straight from ex-whiskey barrels.
