High West is the brand that proved great whiskey could come from one of America's most unexpected places. Founded in 2006 by biochemist David Perkins and his wife Jane, who relocated their family to Park City, Utah after a visit to Maker's Mark sparked his fascination with the parallels between distillation and his own scientific background, High West became Utah's first legal distillery since 1870. What started as a small operation in a historic Park City stable has grown into a globally recognized brand, with most production now taking place at the larger Blue Sky Ranch distillery in Wanship, home to a 1,600-gallon copper pot still named Agnes.
