Myrtle Bank takes its name from the Myrtle Bank Hotel in Kingston, Jamaica, the landmark waterfront hotel whose bar is credited with the kind of tropical cocktail service that inspired the tiki pioneers, Donn the Beachcomber and Trader Vic. The brand's aim is to capture Jamaican rum the way it tasted when those drinks were being invented, during the golden age of mixology. This Tiki Blend was put together by Shannon Mustipher, the rum specialist, beverage director behind the rum program at Glady's Caribbean, and author of Tiki: Modern Tropical Cocktails, who selected it specifically for mixing classic and modern tropical drinks. The rum is 100% pot still Jamaican rum, aged for ten years, with the maturation carried out in the UK, and it's bottled without additives, so no added sugar or color is smoothing out the funk that pot still Jamaican rum is known for. It debuted in New York before rolling out to more states. This is a bottle to reach for when a Mai Tai, Jungle Bird or Zombie calls for Jamaican rum with real age and weight behind it, though at ten years it also stands up neat or with a single ice cube.
