Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Pittyvaich is the fourth release in the Ghost and Rare series, in which master blender Jim Beveridge built Blue Label around irreplaceable whiskies from closed "ghost" distilleries. At its heart is a gem from Pittyvaich, the Speyside distillery that operated for just eighteen years before closing in 1993, joined by ghost grain whiskies from Port Dundas and Carsebridge.
Bottled at 87.6 proof, it opens with fresh apple and the autumnal character of Pittyvaich, balanced by honeycomb and soft wood from the ghost grains, while rare malts from Mannochmore, Auchroisk, Cragganmore, Strathmill and Royal Lochnagar add dark fruit and berries before gentle butterscotch, stewed orchard fruit and cinnamon. Best enjoyed neat with iced water alongside, it is a one-time bottling of whisky that can never be made again, and a serious collector's piece.
