Lewis Cellars was founded in 1992 by former Indy and Formula One driver Randy Lewis and his wife Debbie, who remain hands-on in every aspect of vineyard management and winemaking at their Napa winery, producing roughly 9,000 cases a year. Winemaker Josh Widaman, who trained under Lewis's longtime winemaker and worked at Pahlmeyer and Lokoya, builds the Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from the most compelling parcels in the Lewis program, with hillside and valley-floor Napa Valley fruit selected for depth and structure. The wine is aged 19 months in French oak, 75% new, and bottled at 15.5% ABV. Jeb Dunnuck gave it 93 points for aromas of dark berries, graphite, leather and crushed stone, a medium to full-bodied frame with elegant structure and polished tannins, and a drinking window of seven to nine years; Decanter went to 94 points, praising blue fruit, blackberry preserve, toasty oak spice and kirsch over firm, saline-tinged tannins and a dark chocolate finish. Decant and serve with hearty braised meats, a bone-in ribeye or lamb shanks. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release. 750ml bottle.
