My Favorite Neighbor was born from the friendship of two Paso Robles winemakers, Eric Jensen of the cult estate Booker Vineyard and the neighbor whose vineyard sits next door, and it celebrates the idea that wine is best shared on the porch or around the table with people you cherish. Jensen makes it with the same seriousness he brings to Booker: fruit is harvested from neighboring vineyards on the west side of Paso Robles in the Willow Creek and Adelaida districts, where limestone soils and the Templeton Gap's cool evening air build structure, and the vineyards are farmed responsibly. The Cabernet Sauvignon is typically blended with small portions of Petite Sirah, Petit Verdot or Syrah for color and depth, aged around 18 months in French oak, roughly a third new, and bottled near 15.0% ABV in 750ml. It is lush and generous: blackberry, black cherry, cassis and blueberry over cocoa, espresso, vanilla and sweet baking spice, with dense, velvety tannins and a long, mouth-filling finish. Jeb Dunnuck and Wine Enthusiast have scored recent vintages in the low-to-mid 90s. Pair it with grilled ribeye, braised short ribs or barbecue pork shoulder.
