Orphan Barrel Latverian Cask is a 20 year old American light whiskey released by Diageo's Orphan Barrel program in partnership with Marvel Studios to mark the film Avengers: Doomsday, and it is named for Latveria, the fictional European nation ruled by Doctor Victor von Doom. It is the brand's first light whiskey: distilled by MGP in Lawrenceburg, Indiana from a 99% corn mash bill, then aged a minimum of 20 years in Indiana and Kentucky in a mix of ex-bourbon, ex-rye and multi-use casks, which keeps the profile softer and sweeter than a bourbon of the same age. Diageo US whiskey master blender Andrew Mackay selected the blend, and it is bottled at 46% ABV (92 proof) in a 750ml decanter. The label is an original illustration by Marvel artist Rod Reis built around Doom and Latveria, with details that reward a closer look, and roughly one in six bottles carries a holographic label treatment. The brand's notes call for caramel and sweet vanilla on the nose, honey, butterscotch, orange peel and oak on the palate, and a warm finish of creamy vanilla and dried fruit. Pour it neat or over a single large cube, and keep the bottle on the shelf after it is empty.
