New Deal Portland Dry Gin 33 comes from New Deal Distillery in Portland, Oregon, one of the pioneers of the city's craft-distilling boom. It is a juniper-forward gin built around organic juniper berries suspended in handmade copper botanical trays during distillation, a technique that captures the bright, crisp character of the berries without overwhelming the gin's richer aromatics. It is bottled at 47% ABV (94 proof).
The Beverage Testing Institute awarded it a Gold medal and 90 points, calling it exceptional, with mild aromas of sage, mint, nuts and bark, a silky, dryish medium body and a finish of pepper, marinated root vegetables, lemon honey tea, grass and minerals. It is a clean, modern-style gin that still tastes of juniper, which makes it a versatile choice for a Martini, a Negroni or a G&T, and it is one of the best values in Pacific Northwest craft gin.
