Neyers AME Neyers Ranch Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bruce and Barbara Neyers founded Neyers Vineyards in 1992 after Bruce spent two decades at Joseph Phelps and alongside importer Kermit Lynch, and the winery takes its cues from classic French winemaking: native yeast fermentation, no laboratory malolactic starters, minimal intervention in barrel and bottling without fining or filtration. AME, the old French word for soul, is the estate Cabernet from Neyers Ranch in Conn Valley, the family's home vineyard tucked in the hills east of St. Helena, where rocky, well-drained soils and cool evening air give structure and lift. Winemaker Tadeo Borchardt ages it about 20 months in French oak, roughly a third new, and bottles it at around 14.5% ABV in 750ml. The wine shows black cherry, cassis, cedar, dried sage and a savory, earthy undertone, with fine tannins, bright acidity and a long, elegant finish that leans toward Bordeaux rather than jammy Napa. It drinks well with a decant on release and will improve for a decade. Pair with roast duck, grilled lamb or a mushroom and thyme risotto. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
