Nicklaus Private Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Jack Nicklaus Wines was created in 2011 by the golf legend in partnership with Terlato Wines, the Chicago family that owns Rutherford Hill and Chimney Rock, with the Golden Bear personally approving each release. The Private Reserve is the top Cabernet Sauvignon in the lineup, produced in limited quantities from select Napa Valley vineyard lots on the valley floor and benchlands, including Terlato-farmed fruit in Rutherford and the Stags Leap District, in vintages the team judges worthy of the designation. It is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon blended with small amounts of Merlot and Petit Verdot, aged roughly 20 months in French oak, about half new, and bottled around 14.5% ABV. The wine shows ripe black cherry, cassis and plum with vanilla, cedar, mocha and a hint of dried herbs, full-bodied with supple, rounded tannins and a long, polished finish that has had a few years in bottle to knit together.
