Nikka Yoichi 10 Year Old Single Malt Japanese Whisky is the return of an age statement to Nikka's original distillery, founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru on the coast of Hokkaido because its climate reminded him of Scotland. Reintroduced in 2022 after years without age-stated Yoichi, it is a single malt aged at least ten years and bottled at 45% ABV.
Yoichi's character comes from traditional direct coal-fired distillation, which gives the spirit a toasty, smoky depth, and from aging in warehouses swept by sea breeze. Expect peat smoke, brine and toasted oak on the nose, a rich palate of malt, dried fruit, dark chocolate and a briny hint, and a long, smoky finish. It is a whisky for slow neat sipping.
