Pinhook Vertical Series Tiz Rye Time 6 Year Old Rye Whiskey is the third installment of Pinhook's Vertical Series, a nine-year experiment that follows 450 barrels of Indiana rye from four to twelve years old. Every spring Pinhook blends roughly 50 barrels from the same lot and picks a proof that best balances the whiskey at that age, giving drinkers a rare chance to taste how a single stock of rye evolves year over year.
The 6 Year, released in 2022, is bottled at 108 proof from the 95% rye and 5% malted barley mash bill. Breaking Bourbon rated it 3 out of 5 and found it much more spice-forward than the 5 Year, with fresh summer fruit cocktail, mint, white peppercorn, light charred oak, bubble gum and baking spice on the nose, bold rye spice balanced by white peach and vanilla wafer on the palate, and a lingering finish of oak, peppercorn and spicy heat, calling the fruit-and-spice contrast a fun part of the ongoing experiment. It is the punchiest of the early Vertical Series releases and a great Sazerac rye.
