Planteray Belize 2008 is a 15-year-old vintage rum from Maison Ferrand, the Cognac house behind the range formerly sold as Plantation, released under the new Planteray name in 2023. It was distilled in 2008 at Travellers Liquors in Belize City from molasses, and it follows the double-aging model Alexandre Gabriel has used for the whole range: 13 years in American ex-bourbon barrels under the Belizean tropical sun, where the heat drives fast extraction and heavy evaporation, followed by two more years in Ferrand's Cognac casks in the cooler cellars of southwest France. It is bottled at 48.3% ABV (96.6 proof) as a one-time vintage release. The published tasting notes run to honey, toasted oak and subtle tropical fruit, with banana, pineapple, cognac and oak as the dominant characters, and the profile reads as medium-bodied and rich rather than sweet. Belize is a rum origin most American drinkers have never tasted at any age, and 15 years in wood at this strength makes this one of the oldest expressions of the country's rum to reach US shelves.
