Pope Valley Winery traces its roots to 1897, when blacksmith Ed Haus built the original gravity-flow winery on the site, which operated under the Haus family until Prohibition and intermittently afterward. The Eakle family revived it in 1998 and still farms it today, making Pope Valley one of the few Napa County wineries in the quiet, rural valley east of Howell Mountain and St. Helena, a warmer, higher-elevation pocket with rocky soils and cold nights. The Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced primarily from the estate's Pope Valley vineyards, aged in a mix of French and American oak and bottled at around 14.5% ABV in 750ml. The wine offers blackberry, black cherry and cassis with vanilla, cocoa and dried herb notes on a full, supple palate with ripe tannins and a warm finish. The 2018 vintage, widely regarded as one of Napa's finest recent years for Cabernet, gives this bottling extra concentration and balance. Pair with grilled tri-tip, lamb kebabs or a cheese board with aged Gouda. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
