Duquesne is one of the historic rhum labels of Martinique, with bottlings going back at least to the 1940s, when it was sold as a rhum from the Plantations du Val d'Or. Today it's produced by Maison La Mauny in Rivière-Pilote, in the south of the island, one of Martinique's largest producers, which also makes the La Mauny and Trois Rivières rhums and has been part of the Campari Group since 2019. The La Mauny estate itself dates to 1749 and has been making rhum since 1820. This is the blanc: an AOC Martinique rhum agricole, which means it's distilled from fresh-pressed sugarcane juice rather than molasses, here on Creole column stills, and bottled unaged and unsweetened at 50% ABV (100 proof), the traditional strength for white agricole on the island. Tasters on RumX describe floral and vegetal aromas, with the palate adding black pepper and a salty, grassy edge, and most agree it shines in cocktails. That makes this 1-liter bottle ideal for Ti' Punch, the Martinique classic of rhum, lime and cane syrup, as well as Daiquiris and agricole Mojitos.
