Rodney Strong Brothers Vineyard Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Rodney Strong Vineyards was founded in 1959 by Sonoma County pioneer Rod Strong, the first to plant Cabernet Sauvignon in Alexander Valley, and has been owned by the Klein family since 1989. Brothers Vineyard is the estate's crown jewel, a 141-acre hillside ranch in the hills east of Cloverdale at the northern tip of Alexander Valley, with west-facing slopes above 1,000 feet on loam over sandstone, shale and ancient greenstone that drain quickly and stress the vines into tiny, concentrated berries. Winemaker Justin Seidenfeld makes this single-vineyard Cabernet from the best blocks on the ranch and ages it two years in new French oak before bottling at about 14.5% ABV. The 2019 vintage, shaped by a wet spring and an August heat wave, earned 93 points from Anthony Gismondi, who found black and blue fruit layered with balsamic, chocolate and savory notes, soft, sweet, dense tannins and the structure to age well past 2028. Expect blackberry, cassis, black plum, cocoa, cedar and a mountain-herb edge on a long, plush finish. Serve with grilled lamb, prime rib or a dry-aged ribeye. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release. 750ml bottle.
