Ron Barceló has been made in the Dominican Republic since 1930, and today it is produced by Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos, the country's largest rum producer, which distills the brand's rum on a column still from fresh sugarcane juice pressed from its own plantations rather than from molasses, a distinction that sets Barceló apart from most Dominican rums. Añejo is the heart of the range: rum aged roughly four years in reconditioned ex-bourbon American oak barrels, which the house describes as showing woody, vanilla and spicy notes. This bottling is a limited-edition presentation of that same Añejo, so the liquid is the familiar one and the packaging is what changes.
