Reserva Limitada is the Bacardí most Bacardí drinkers have never tasted. It began as the founder's family stock — rum reserved for the Bacardís themselves — and was first released in 2003 to mark the opening of the visitor center at the Cathedral of Rum, the company's art deco distillery in Cataño, Puerto Rico, where it was sold only from the gift shop until 2009. It's a blend of scarce reserves including some of the house's oldest rums, aged between roughly 10 and 16 years in lightly charred American oak, bottled at 40% ABV in a numbered bottle with a natural cork. Difford's Guide found stewed fruit, soft brown sugar, cedar, and passion fruit on the nose, opening into an elegant, mellow palate of toffee, butterscotch, old leather, overripe banana, orange, lightly spicy oak, and grilled almond, with a long, lightly spiced finish. The Lone Caner called it a solidly excellent rum, well made and carefully put together, and one Distiller reviewer named it a top pick for an introductory sipping rum — elegant, balanced, and very approachable, with the honest caveat that it drinks a touch thin at 80 proof.
