Bacardi Reserva Ocho Sherry Cask Finish Rum
The Sherry Cask Finish was the inaugural release of Bacardí's five-year Cask Finish Series in 2021 — one limited edition every August through 2025 — and it sold out fast enough to justify the whole program. The base is Reserva Ocho, the family's original premium rum inspired by an 1862 recipe, aged eight to twelve years in used American white oak in the Caribbean, then finished three months in Oloroso sherry casks from southern Spain, a nod to founder Facundo Bacardí Massó's Catalan roots. Bottled at 40% ABV in the standard Ocho bottle with a red label and a twine-tied note explaining the series. Got Rum found the sherry carried the mid-palate without ever overwhelming the familiar Bacardí 8 profile — coming front and center only at the finish, almost a wave goodbye. Expect gingerbread, maple sugar, and a hint of spice on the nose, opening into caramel, vanilla, white pepper, and light smoke, with raisin and dried fruit from the Oloroso arriving late. Honest reception: RumRatings fans mostly call it a nice upgrade on the standard Ocho and a great sipper for the price, though several wanted more sherry influence, and All At Sea felt it needed five minutes in the glass to open. A pleasant, easy after-dinner rum — give it air, sip it neat, or use it in a rum Sidecar or Old Fashioned.
