Piccadily is the northern Indian house behind Indri single malt, which scores in the 90s with Whisky Advocate's panel, and Camikara — Sanskrit for "liquid gold" — is its rum: distilled from fresh sugarcane juice, agricole-style, rather than the molasses or jaggery nearly all Indian rum uses, which master blender Surrinder Kumar calls far more challenging in a tropical climate where cane juice spoils in hours. The 8 Year is a blend of pot-still and column-still cane rum, aged eight years in bourbon barrels through the extreme heat of Haryana's plains — an angels' share of 10 to 12 percent a year — and bottled at 42.8% ABV (85.6 proof) with no added color, flavor, sugar, or spice. Drinkhacker found it grassy and surprisingly clean on the nose, the gentle petrol character of cane rum well-tempered, with earthiness percolating through. Expect honey, toffee, dried fruit, and vanilla from the oak over a grassy, faintly funky cane-juice core, finishing warm with wood and spice.
