Williams & Humbert, the Jerez sherry house founded in 1877 and maker of Dos Cortados and Don Guido, sources rum from Guyana and Barbados aged ten years in the Caribbean, ships it to Spain, and ages it five more years in butts that held its twenty-year Pedro Ximénez sherry, bottled at 40% ABV in a numbered decanter; the label calls it a 10+5. Where the PX 5+5 layers Palo Cortado and PX over a five-year base, Luxus gives an older, deeper base a single, long PX finish, and the extra decade of Caribbean aging shows: expect a very dark, red-tinged pour with a nose of raisin, dried fig, date, walnut, dark chocolate, and leather over the Demerara base's molasses and wood, opening into a dense, rounded, sweet-leaning palate of PX fruit, toffee, coffee, and baking spice with a tannic grip from fifteen years of oak, finishing very long and warm.
