Foursquare Equidem 14 Year Rum

Equidem is the Black Muscat Foursquare — Mark XXVII of the Exceptional Cask Selection, and the first time Richard Seale finished rum in casks that held the dark, perfumed dessert wine. Foursquare is the distillery Fred Minnick dubbed the Pappy of rum: the Seale family's operation in St. Philip, Barbados, where Seale has led the fight for unadulterated rum — no sugar, no color, no additives, no filtration — and every drop is distilled, aged, blended, and bottled on the island. Equidem is a Single Blended Rum, pot and Coffey column distillate, tropically aged fourteen years in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels and ex-Black Muscat casks, and bottled at 61% ABV in 2024 in limited quantities. Rum Revelations scored it just above the sister release Convocation — the Madeira mark came darn close, but Equidem edged it. Black Muscat is a rose-scented, red-fruited, grapey dessert wine, and its cask brings something no other ECS has: expect a nose of rose petal, lychee, red grape, cherry, and honey over the house's vanilla, coconut, and toasted oak, opening into a rich, aromatic palate where floral, musky fruit meets caramel, baking spice, and the signature buttery texture, the proof carrying it all, finishing very long and perfumed.
