Worthy Park Estate in the St. Catherine hills of Jamaica has grown cane since 1670 and made rum since the 1740s; it stopped in 1962 amid a postwar glut and, after the Clarke family built a modern distillery in 2005, sold bulk rum to independents while its own stocks aged. The Special Cask Series is the estate's finishing program — traditional Jamaican pot-still rum given a secondary maturation in rare casks, non-chill filtered, no color — and the Port is 100% pot-still rum from estate molasses on the Forsyth double-retort still, distilled in 2010, aged eight years in ex-bourbon casks and then two years in casks that held ruby port, all at the estate, blended and bottled in 2020 at 45% ABV. Memphis Rum Club found a lot of red fruit on the tart, bitter end of the spectrum — cranberry tart, candied strawberry, sour grape, and Red Vine licorice — a fun, tasty dram, if a hair behind the Madeira. Rum Ratings' drinkers find honey, overripe banana, and the musty note of port on the nose, a stinging honeyed, peppery palate that smooths out, and a long, herbal, dried-fruit finish with zero sweetness.
