Schrader Cellars Monastery Block To Kalon Vineyard Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon
Fred Schrader founded Schrader Cellars in 1998 with a simple goal: make the finest Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon possible from the best blocks of the best vineyards. Working with winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, Schrader built its reputation on To Kalon in Oakville, earning multiple 100-point scores, and since joining Constellation Brands in 2017 it has gained access to the historic Monastery Block, the hillside parcel on the western edge of To Kalon named for the Carmelite monastery beside it. Monastery Block is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented in small lots and aged in 100% new French oak, bottled at 15.5% ABV. The 2023 is already one of the most acclaimed wines of the vintage: Jeb Dunnuck rated it 97-100 points for an insane nose of black currants, smoked tobacco, lead pencil and crushed stone on a full-bodied, concentrated frame with building tannins, and The Wine Advocate gave it 96-98, praising ethereal violets and thyme over ripe black cherries with a silky finish and a 2027 to 2050 window. Cellar it four or five years and serve with dry-aged beef. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release. 750ml bottle.
