Schrader Cellars was founded in 1998 by Fred Schrader, a fine-art dealer turned vintner who built a cult reputation by pairing specific Cabernet clones with specific To Kalon parcels; the winery, now part of Constellation's fine-wine group, has collected nineteen 100-point scores from the Wine Advocate and is made by Thomas Rivers Brown. This bottling comes from the northern section of the legendary To Kalon Vineyard in Oakville, the stretch behind the Mondavi blocks that borders the Beckstoffer holdings, blended from several parcels and aged in new French oak. The 2023 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon at 15.5% ABV, with 2,462 cases produced. Jeb Dunnuck gave it 99 points for ripe blackcurrant, cassis, sweet tobacco and chocolate on a full-bodied, velvety palate he called hedonistic, with twenty years ahead of it; James Suckling scored it 97 for its structure and muscular tannin, and the Wine Advocate 95 to 97 for dried herbs, black cherry and loamy earth with a hint of Mexican chocolate on the finish. Decant two hours and serve with prime rib or lamb rack. 750ml bottle. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
