Sextant Kamal Reserve Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon
Sextant Wines is a family-owned Paso Robles winery founded by Craig and Nancy Stoller, who built it from their vineyard-supply roots into a 10,000-case estate with a tasting room in the Templeton Gap and vineyards that span the warm east side and the cooler Edna Valley. The Kamal Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is the estate's flagship, a reserve-level selection of the ripest, most concentrated Cabernet lots from the Stollers' Paso Robles vineyards, where hot days and 40-degree nighttime drops on calcareous and sandy soils give Cabernet its signature Paso richness and soft tannins. The wine is aged in French oak with a healthy share of new barrels for well over a year and bottled around 15.0% ABV in a 750ml bottle. Expect an opaque purple wine with blackberry jam, black cherry, cassis and plum over mocha, vanilla, toasted oak, sweet tobacco and a touch of dried herb, with a plush, full-bodied palate, ripe polished tannins and a long, warm finish. It is built for the grill: pair with tri-tip, barbecue short ribs, lamb burgers or a blue-cheese-topped filet. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
