Silverado Vineyards GEO Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon
Silverado Vineyards was established in 1981 by Ron and Diane Miller, Walt Disney's daughter and son-in-law, who named it for the abandoned mining town at the top of Napa Valley and built the estate around historic vineyards they had been farming since the 1970s. GEO comes from Mt. George Vineyard east of Napa, the site of the first grape plantings in Coombsville; originally called Cedar Knoll, it earned renown in the 1880s under vintner Henry Hagen for fine American reds. Silverado helped establish the Coombsville AVA, and GEO was created to mark that milestone. Coombsville's volcanic soils and cool bay breezes give Cabernet with firm structure and long hang time, and the 2019 vintage, a near-ideal Napa growing season, was bottled at 14.2% ABV in 750ml. The winery describes concentrated layers of black cherry, cocoa and nutmeg on the nose, with a full-bodied palate whose dense tannins and acidity give it the backbone to age for a decade or more. Decant it for grilled lamb, filet mignon or wild mushroom risotto. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
