Soggy Dollar takes its name from a real beach bar on Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands, established in the early 1970s and famous as the birthplace of the Painkiller cocktail — the name itself comes from sailors and beachgoers who'd swim ashore and pay for their drinks with dollar bills still wet from the swim. The rum lineup channels that same laid-back island spirit: Gold, the entry-level everyday sipper; Dark, triple-distilled from molasses and aged in used bourbon casks; Island Spiced, the same base rum infused with vanilla, caramel, pineapple, and warming spice; and Private Stock, the top of the range, aged up to six years and bottled at a fuller 45% ABV. Reviews across the board tend to land in solid-but-unspectacular territory — Drinkhacker's Christopher Null gave both the Dark and Island Spiced a B, calling the latter genuinely unusual and unexpected for the category. This isn't a critically-acclaimed craft brand chasing awards; it's a fun, beach-bar-branded lineup built around a real, well-loved Caribbean landmark, best suited to easy sipping and classic tropical cocktails like the Painkiller it helped popularize.
